it's very much against the nature of humanities research to have an oh so very clear theoretical framework & timeline for the research over the next 4 years before you are admitted to a PhD program. What use to have a concrete and detailed plan that you will 100% abort later? All the AHRC awardees that I knew actually do things very different from what they listed in their research proposal. I do not trust the tenet of "testing your skills in mapping a doctoral scale project" and such. It's more bureaucracy than skill testing.

uk higher education is not like the us HE...多样性雇佣几不可见，特定偏白的领域基本上开个会一百来人整整齐齐全是白人，亚洲脸会被真诚私下里问“你们国家有自己的英语文学研究吗”，“你为什么不做adaptations/translations”，诸如此类现象感觉在一些更政治正确的环境是很难想象的
我本来对英国的这一切也没有什么正面指望，但突然有英人说不，我其实觉得多样化有意义，这就给我干沉默了……
